What is A2/A2 Milk?

What is A2/A2 Milk?

All mammals produce a type of protein in their milk called A2 beta-casein protein. It's in human breastmilk, and the milk of all nursing animals.

But something strange happened with cows. A long time ago, there was a genetic mutation in cows that caused them to produce something called A1 beta-casein protein. Over time this protein chain has appeared prolifically, and now milk in North America will contain both A1 and A2 protein chains in milk.

A1 PROTEIN IS IN MOST MILK WHETHER IT'S ORGANIC OR NOT.

Why is this a problem? Because A1 beta-casein is difficult for some people to digest. We simply weren't made to digest it. Sometimes when people feel sensitive to dairy it's not so much lactose intolerance as it is the inability to digest A1 protein chains.

That's where specially produced A2/A2 milk comes in.

HOW DO WE GET MILK WITH ONLY A2/A2 PROTEIN?

Cows can be tested to see if they produce A1 or A2 milk. Farmers can then select a herd of dairy cows that only produce A2 milk. If that A2 milk is processed without mixing it with A1 milk from other herds, you get 100% A2/A2 milk.

Julaine and Johannes at Creekside Cheese + Creamery are farmers who specialize in A2/A2 milk - and not only that. It's certified organic, grass-fed, and humane.

And it's more than milk. It's cheese! They are award-winning cheesemakers.

Because their herd is Swiss Brown Cows, they've focused in on specialty Swiss and Dutch cheeses like raclette and gouda, all made with their organic, grass-fed, A2 milk. And yogurt and cheese curds.

We have delivery customers who only source their dairy through The Honest Farmer and Creekside because they simply can't digest grocery store milk and cheese.

FOR SOME FAMILIES, IT'S THE FIRST TIME THEY CAN GIVE THEIR KIDS DAIRY.

We genuinely have customers who thought they could never have milk again, and now they're ordering 4+ bottles of A2/A2 milk every week. It's incredible.

But we're not doctors. So if you're lactose intolerant and want to try A2/A2 milk, please do so at your own risk. And we're grateful to Creekside Cheese + Creamery for their quality, creamy, and flavourful dairy.
